Wedding Dinner at Raffles Hotel Singapore

I had done a roving silhouette cutting service for another special date: 10/10/09. The so call special date usually is the combination of the numbers (day, month and year etc.) like this year’s 09.09.09 (9th September 2009).Nice, classy and simple deco.The sepia color mural painting was look like a real sculpture that was really interesting.Just take this photo because I found it interesting in this angle.

Wedding Silhouette Cutting

I was did a pre-event at York Hotel for a wedding dinner. That was great to meet many nice guests tonight, the eve of Chinese's Mid Autumn Festival (‘中秋节’).

Chinese Paper Cutting Chinese Mid Autumn Festival

Just did Chinese Paper Cutting Demo cum workshop to an event for Chinese Mid Autumn Festival. Many guests were very interesting to participate in this demo and workshop.

I just realized many people did not know how to use scissors, so I had tried my best to guide them.

Talking about Chinese Paper Cutting, the traditional way was to draw the design on the back of the red paper then do the related cutting.

Chinese Paper Cutting is actual belonging to one of the graphic design category in my view; one of the methods to produce it was using the template. We can just use the computer to design it and then print out the design and stable it on the red paper and do the cutting.

Wedding Event at 20.09.2009

Glad to complete a silhouette cutting booking for a wedding event at Raffles Hotel Singapore. To me it just a Sunday, but that was a surprise after watched the news report, today is 20th September 2009, which in numeric form is 20092009!

Hmm..based on such 'Auspicious Date', in future that will be 20.10.2010, 20.11.2011, 20.12.2012....life is very interesting!

Front View Silhouette Cutting

It had been many times that many people asked me why cant I do a front view silhouette cutting of their portrait, the reason is because in traditional silhouette cutting which very emphasized on the outline of the artwork was hardly tell that is the person’s portrait if they compare the art piece with the real person; because usually not much people having a strong features during the event unless they really make it a big different.

That was what I mean having strong feature front the front view ;p

Silhouette for Couples

Thought cutting 2 persons in one piece of paper is one of the difficult tasks; because you really need to handle the scoring of the portrait size very carefully else the artwork will not be nice eg. One head too big and one head too small, the aiming direction of both portraits in your artworks was different etc.The hair style and the related accessories of the guests, is one of the factor that affect the ‘design’ (which mean how you like to arrange them in you art piece) of the artworks.

Further Detail Cutting

The traditional silhouette cutting is mainly cut the shape of the portrait of the guest, I think if we cut more detail on it, which will be more belonging to paper art area.

Silhouette cutting can be seen it as sort of black and white graphic, but if we do it for performance purpose, professional speaking, we should do it within a minutes; hence within an hour’s event booking, we should be able to produce 35-45 pieces (including put in the plastic bag for the guests.

Down here, I just try to explore further cut in details for the silhouette art works.To do a silhouette for more detail, seems it need more time to decide what type of cutting you are going to do, I talking about just observe and cut in the further detail without and hand drawn steps; that seems need a lot of research, experiments and practices.How to do a silhouette cutting with more details in a shortest timing yet it still looks good, that is the challenge.

It was real cool that I have a chance to do my silhouette cutting for Max Mara’s event at ion Orchard tonight!The coolest thing was I have a chance to see the fashion show as well! I would say, the cloth worn by the models was really amazing nice! I like the designs very much!Just took some photos with some of my “colleagues”! Heehee!

That was great to met “Crazee E.Z.”, one of the longest event entertainers in Singapore. E.Z is a very talented artist, I know her for sometimes, other than doing balloon twisting, she also a game host, clown juggler, disc jockey etc.

That was cool to do an event at NUSS Guild House to night! I can’t remember how long I did not doing any show in NUS (National University Singapore), but I like to do show in university or polytechnic, it made me feel young and happy because usually most of the guests I entertaining was young and friendly or appreciate or respect my works ;p

Wedding Event

Did silhouette cutting for a wedding dinner at Good wood Park Hotel. For silhouette cutting in wedding, I only do two persons in one piece cutting for the bridal and broom, because it need an accurate visual scoring to produce a nice artwork, hence it need slightly long time to produce it.Thought I will do more silhouette cutting for couples in future events.A night scene of ion Orchard while I passing by it.

The Cutting Size of My Silhouette Cutting

I usually prepared the black paper in A6 size (a quarter of A4 size about 15cm long, close to 3R photo size), and I will put the artworks in a same size light yellow based background paper in a clear plastic bag to put in my artworks.

I set my artwork in this size is because that was easily for the guest to put in their pocket. Such size is also about a size of our palm; when you hold the artworks on your palm, you are able to view the impact of the artworks.

To make my artwork able to give such feel, I always try to made use of the full area of the paper, thought this could be one of the way to show your scoring skill and how good you can control your hand to produce what you see, especially we are doing a show in the events to catch crowd.Expect special case like client asked my to produce a smaller size for their own framing size purpose, else I do not do it in such small size by using the A6 size paper, because it will looks ugly once you put it in the plastic bag with an A6 size background.Art is nothing right or wrong, but in my view, doing silhouette cutting in an entertaining purpose, the art piece size should be in certain visually comfortable size, else that will be too weak for such presentation.

There many type of framing method about the silhouette cutting., other than frame the artworks in common square frame, the traditional was frame it in oval shape frame.
