Great that having a chance to do my portrait silhouette cutting at Chui Huay Lim Club yesterday!
That was nice to meet nice guests in this Chinese New Year theme event.
Hi, I am Welles Tan, welcome to my blog. I had been a caricaturist for events and parties since 1990. Silhouette Cutting also called Portrait Silhouette Cutting,Profile Cutting or Shadow Cutting. It is an art that using scissors to cut out a shape of a person’s side profile using dark color paper. You can frame it like a photo, put on the desk as a decoration for memories. Within an hour, it should be about 40 - 50 cutting of A6 size to be produced, this is a professional artist's speed.

Silhouette Cutting at Intercontinental Bugis Singapore
Did Silhouette Cutting recently at Hotel Intercontinental Bugis Singapore for Chinese New Year related event. Due to the theme of Chinese New Year, I will use red paper for the cutting.
As usual, the size of the paper I use was trimmed to A6 size, which is 105mm x 148mm, it was about out palm size or the size was close to 4R paper.
I use this size for the cutting because it was handy and many guest can put my artwork in their pocket as well.
That was great to met one of Singapore's famous calligrapher My Yong in the event again.
Thought he use red fan for the calligraphy as well. As I met many calligraphers so far, not much calligrapher carry Chinese fan, this is because that the fan ordered from China, really need to do it many months ago, and those fan order from China, might not be able to keep long unless the calligrapher really know how to keep the fans.
The fan made by bamboo or shot of wood, you need to put in the proper place because it could easily have bugs on the fans ;p

Chinese New Year Lohei Event
Did another silhouette cutting for a Chinese New Year "Lohei" event. My one cut 2 pieces artwork ;pMet Singapore's best Rainbow Calligrapher Dorby Yip in the event. Due to they are the best, so the whole Singapore's New Immigrant Chine artists was tried their best to Dorby Yips calligraphy style, really no shame yet those New Immigrant Chine artists work was real low quality, I would say, if those New Immigrant Chine artists could improve their own Rainbow Calligraphy from their own China Mainland style, that would be perfect, unfortunately, so far those artist I came across only know how to copy, in a failure way. This guy was doing his unicycling musng performance in the event.Special "Lohei" dishes!
